I was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México. In 2000, my parents decided to bring my 3 brothers, little sister, and I to the United States. We were undocumented for 7 years and thanks to my dad status, Legal Permanent Resident, he became a US citizen in 2007 and was able to petition my family. I recently became a US citizen and this year will be my first year VOTING. I will use my vote to create change. Our immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed. We need an IMMIGRATION REFORM! We need to #StopSeperatingFamilies!

Superman is an immigrant.
The legend of Superman is a story of immigration: he came to this country as an outsider, and went on to become a national symbol of truth, justice and the American Way. "Superman is an Immigrant" encourages us all to examine our immigrant histories, and inspires us to draw parallels with the Superman story.

From Kathy Parrent, Silver Spring, Maryland:
Mom = English & Irish, French Canadian from Montreal.
Dad = Sharecroppers in the south. Way back – persecuted French Huguenots.
Both sides moved to Detroit and worked in the factories during WWII.
My people worked hard, owned their own home and sent my sister and I to college!
I Am the American Way!

I am 1st generation Nicaraguan-American and 5th generation German-American. My mother went on a 4 month journey to the United States in search of her mother, my Abuela. In April of 2000 my mother finally reached the United States. She met my father a 4th generation German-American. Together they began building a life for my brothers and I. In June of 2014 my mom became an American citizen. She now has a Bachelor’s degree, is a paralegal, and going back to law school. She has inspired me to fight for the many undocumented immigrants without a voice. I am the American Way.

I am 1st generation Mexican- American. My Dad came here for a better more prosperous future for his family. The Amnesty of 1986 allowed him to pave his way to an American Citizenship. Now both of my parents are citizens. My parents came for my brother and I. They came for their future, my future.
I AM THE AMERICAN WAY

I was in middle-school when I aced our “citizenship” test. I am now 22 years old and undocumented. I was brought here as a baby. I went to public schools. I grew up reading Harry Potter. I went through the difficulty and shame of applying for any job that would hire “illegal immigrants.” I speak the language, I’ve assimilated into the culture. Now I just need that piece of paper to validate what I already know. I’m an immigrant, but I’m still an American.

Some of my family arrived in New York from Wales in 1764, before America was even America.
Some came later, to escape poverty and famine, and were greeted on these shores with “Irish Need Not Apply” signs.
Nearly every day, I think how fortunate I am to live in the great American melting pot of New York City.
I cherish my dear friends who’ve come from all over the world; places like the Caribbean, Europe, Central and South America and elsewhere and enriched my life with their own life stories.
I am the American Way.

My grandfather immigrated from Mexico illegally. Now my sister owns a dance studio and volunteers at school whose dance programs have been cut, and my startup employs 14 people.
